25-074 Afternoon Library Page
A library page position is an entry-level part-time library position. Hours include afternoons, evenings and weekend shifts for an average of 12 hours per week. Hours change slightly during the summer when we are closed on Sundays and have half days on Saturdays. Responsibilities include: returning (re-shelving) items to the shelves, emptying book drops outside, carrying loads of materials up and down stairs, shelf-reading (making sure items are in their proper order on the shelves.) This is a fairly physical position requiring the ability to stretch up high and bend down low to return items to shelves, carry or push heavy loads on wheeled carts, and 90% of time is spent on your feet. Pages assist with shutting down the building at closing, which includes picking up items that were pulled out during the day, straightening chairs, turning off computers, reminding patrons of impending closing, and checking that doors and windows are properly secured. Knowledge of alphabetical and numerical order is imperative. Attention to detail is also very important. Candidates should be organized, able to work well independently, reliable and dependable. Enjoyment of reading is a plus!
